  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3 large apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Whiskey Cream Sauce:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup Irish whiskey
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry blender to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in the chopped apples.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Add to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. While the cake is baking, make the whiskey cream sauce. In a small saucepan, combine heavy cream, sugar, Irish whiskey, and butter. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is smooth.
